Goodbye to the scholastic year
2006-2007…A difficult year indeed, but this didn’t stop us at Idad Center to
go on with our activities, in spite of all the political tension and turmoil
as well as the difficult security conditions which were daily challenging
us…
As the year started, in
October 2006, we were not very sure how our reunion with our beloved
students will be, after the horrible summer (the Israeli war on Lebanon in
July 2006)…We did not even know which of our students will actually enroll,
which have left the country or the area for war-displacement reasons, se we
were quite anxious. Fortunately enough, the staff-students reunion was
simply great, we were all so happy to see each other after months of bombing
and bloodshed, and the password for all of us was : Let’s forget about it
all, let’s have a great year together !
Instructions were given to
all the educators, therapists and trainers to make sure October would
be a recreational month, the aim of which was to help all students forget
about their traumatic summer experiences. Lots of fun activities were
devised in classes, mostly extra-curricular and artistic, in a relaxed
joyful atmosphere, while at the same time, our psychotherapists were active
doing individual therapy for those students whom we felt were most
devastatingly affected…The results were incredible: within 2 weeks, the
post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms which we could clearly see on almost
everyone were eradicated and soon replaced by a strong motivation for fun,
for learning, for life…
Our annual Iftar Party
on the 3rd of October on the occasion of the holy month of
Ramadan came to add joy and happiness to the hearts of our children and
staff, especially that this year, we were privileged by the visit of a
Special Ramadan Band of young men who came and sang for us songs and prayers
which delighted each and everyone attending the Iftar…
In
November, our educational and vocational programs went into formal
implementation. Teachers were busy working toward the acquisition and
mastery of the educational objectives set for the year, with respect to the
individual needs of each of their students. We also made sure to increase
Group Psychotherapy sessions for all classes in order to allow our students
to express freely their emotions and to stabilize their mood through the
provision of a secure environment and loving and caring guidance. In this
atmosphere, we celebrated together Independence Day: students
presented a great theatrical performance with songs, dances and short
sketches related to patriotic themes.
